The Wildlife Spirit
The idea behind The Wildlife Spirit is to educate local youth and adults on the native wildlife and their natural habitats.
In the purpose-built community and education centre, locals and international visitors alike receive information about the endangered African elephant, their intelligence, their importance in a functioning ecosystem and the urgent need to protect the animals.
In addition to the educational work, the centre also offers various activities to tourists and locals, including the opportunity to find wild elephants in the wild, wander around the botanical garden or visit its “Elephant Dung Paper” production facility. In addition to a guided tour, visitors can learn how to produce their own Elephant-Dung paper. The revenue generated from tourists creates jobs in the area as well as provides free educational sessions for local community members.
In order to include and support the surrounding communities in the project, the centre also had offered locals to sell their crafts such as baskets, jewellery and other handmade goods.
Sadly, the project is on hold due to the Covid pandemic.
